Rice Essays - Rice, Oryza Sativa, Paddy Field, Glutinous Rice

Rice Rice is the main food for about one-third to one-half of the world's population. A mature rice plant is usually two to six feet tall. In the beginning, one shoot appears. It is followed by one, two, or more offshoots developing. There are at least five or six hollow joints for each stalk, and a leaf for each joint. The leaf of the rice plant is long, pointed, flat, and stiff. The highest join of the rice plant is called the panicle. The rice grains develop from the panicles. (Jodon, 300) Rice is classified in the grass family Gramineae. Its genus is Oryza and species O. sativa. It is commonly cultivated for food in Asia. Some varieties of rice include red rice, glutinous rice, and wild rice. (Jodon, 303) The kernel within the grain contains most of the vitamins and minerals (298). The kernel contains thiamine, niacin, and riboflavin (299). Rice has many enemies that destroy a majority of the rice crops. The larvae of moth, stem borers, live in the stems of the rice plants. Some insects suck the plant juices or chew the leaves. Birds, such as bobolink, Java sparrow, or paddybird, would eat the seeds or grains. Disease causing factors such as fungi, roundworms, viruses, and bacteria also destroy the rice plants. Blast disease is caused by fungi which causes the panicles containing the grains to break. (Jodon, 300) There are various types of rice grown all over the world. A majority of rice grown is cultivated rice. When rice is grown with water standing on the fields, it is called lowland, wet, or irrigated rice. Rice plants grown in certain parts of Asia, South America, and Africa are called upland, hill, or dry rice because they are raised on elevated lands that cannot be flooded, but with plentiful rainfall. Wild rice is grown along lake shores of Canada and the Great Lakes. It is usually eaten by people in India. Scented rice is the most expensive because is has long grains and tastes like popcorn when cooked. Glutinous rice is waxy rice consumed by Asians. It is cooked to a sticky paste and is used for cakes and confections. (Jodon, 299) Rice was thought to have originated in southeast Asia when Alexander the Great invaded India in 326 B. C(Jodon, 303). Further research revealed that rice was cultivated around or at the Yangtze River in China, around 4000 to 11,500 years ago. One archaeologist, Toyama, surveyed data on 125 samples of rice grains, plant remains, husks, and other factors from numerous sites along the length of the Yangtze River. He reported that the oldest samples. . . are clustered along the middle Yangtze in Hubei and Hunan provinces. Samples from the upper and lower portions of the Yangtze River were found to be younger, around 4,000 to 10,000 years old. This pattern. . .suggests that rice cultivation originated in the middle Yangtze and spread from there. Archaeologists see more than a decade of excavation of the Yangtze River and nearby sites to confirm that the Yangtze River is where rice was first cultivated. (Normille, 309) The Greeks learned of rice when Alexander the Great invaded India around 326 B. C. Spain was introduced to rice when it was conquered by the Moors during the 700's A.D. Spain then introduced rice to Italy, around the 1400's. The Spanish also introduced rice to the West Indies and South America, around the 1600's. Rice was introduced to the United States when a Madagascar ship docked in the Charleston, South Carolina harbor. The ship captain presented the governor with a sack of seed rice. It was then grown in states south of the Ohio River and east of Mississippi. (Jodon, 303) Rice is usually grown in lowland fields divided by dirt walls (Jodon, 300) A majority of the rice crops are grown with water standing on the fields (Jodon, 299). On level land, these paddies and dirt walls are built in wavy or straight lines. On hill-like land, they follow the slopes and form paddies that rise like steps. The dirt walls are used to hold in water for the fields. (300) Cultivation of the rice plant requires controlling the water supply and weeding the

Racist Commenters on Mark Zuckerbergs Marriage

Racist Commenters on Mark Zuckerberg's Marriage No one has a problem with interracial marriage anymore, right? Poll after poll shows that public support of these unions is at record highs. The 2010 census revealed not only that interracial marriages are up but also that mixed-race children are the fastest growing group of young people. These days television shows feature interracial couples in storylines where race never causes tension. Altogether that means that interracial marriage is simply a non-issue in post-racial America, doesnt it? Not quite. The online reaction to Facebook chief Mark Zuckerbergs wedding on Saturday to Priscilla Chan is a clear reminder that the country has a long way to go before interracial marriage becomes widely and genuinely accepted. The day after Zuckerbergs nuptials the comments sections of websites reporting the news included several hateful remarks criticizing the couples looks and taking aim at their wealth. Thats par for the course online, though. What really stood out is the series of comments with a decidedly racial bent. On the Los Angeles Times website, a commenter named Waskoman exclaimed, Man, those mail order compaines have some hot chicks!  Just kidding!!! Another, using the moniker Jihadlives, remarked, He married a chank?   Whats up with that? What we have here is the assumption that because Chan has Chinese ancestry she cant be an American. Of course not. She must be a woman Zuckerberg shipped from overseas to be his submissive bride. In reality Chan is far from a mail order mate. Shes an Ivy League-educated doctor who could hold her own without Zuckerberg, but the facts of the situation dont easily lend themselves to racist and sexist stereotypes. The second commenter relied on a misspelled racial slur rather than on a racial stereotype to object to Zuckerbergs decision to marry Chan. On a different note, a third L.A. Times commenter accused Zuckerberg of killing his own kind by intermarrying. Ome-Coatl wrote: Why didnt he marry a nice Jewish girl?I once read a conservative Jewish commentator say that Americas intermarriage culture is destroying Jews more effectively than did the Nazi gas chambers. Perhaps it was hyperbole... or was it? The L.A. Times website was hardly the only one where racist commenters took aim at Zuckerberg and Chan. A commenter named Morney on the gossip web site Gawker applauded Zuckerbergs decision to marry interracially but for completely inappropriate reasons. He wrote, Good for Mark to marry a submissive Asian woman, instead of a spoiled American. Shes not a looker, but this way shell take care of him and raise his kids, while he can still hit much hotter #$!* on the side. Once again, theres the assumption that Chan is not from the United States, as if Asian Americans dont exist. This commenter also assumes because Chan has Chinese heritage shell be content to serve as Zuckerbergs caretaker (instead of the doctor she studied to be) and will be so passive shell be cool if Zuckerberg cheats on her. On Gawker, a couple of commenters tried to show Morney that not all Asian women are passive, but they did so by invoking the Dragon Lady stereotype. Youve never dated an Asian woman have you? commenter Tsol asked Morney. Especially a driven achiever like Priscillathere is nothing submissive about them. In fact I guarantee that shes the one wearing the pants in that relationship. Theres a reason the Dragon Lady stereotype stills exists. A word to the wise: you dont fight a stereotype by mentioning another stereotype. Just as all Asian women arent submissive, all Asian women certainly arent domineering, so no one can guarantee that Priscilla Chan wears the pants in her relationship with Zuckerberg. As for why racial stereotypes still existits because racism still does. On TMZ.com commenters plainly suggested that Chans Asianness makes her a whore. Bet she love him long, long time, a commenter named Really? quipped. Others followed suit, and the scary thing is that a number of these comments received more favorable ratings from other viewers than unfavorable ones. So, who cares if racist commenters dont like the fact that Mark Zuckerberg married a Chinese-American doctor? He could buy and sell everyone of those haters. That may be true, but if people exhibit this level of racial animus concerning a powerful couple they dont even know, imagine how people regard the interracial couples they pass on the street, live next to or are related to? Its also important to note that interracial couples consisting of a white man and an Asian woman are largely regarded as the least threatening of all. Given this, if Zuckerberg and Chans marriage can stir up this much hate, what must interracial couples with a different ethnic makeup endure?

Wake Up to a Great Morning With These 10 Sunshine Quotes

Wake Up to a Great Morning With These 10 Sunshine Quotes American songwriter Jimmie Davis once wrote, Sunshine is a welcome thing. It brings a lot of brightness. Hes absolutely right. When the first rays of the sun pours into your bedroom window, you will squint at it under your sheets, but it sure brings a welcome smile on your face. Most parts of the earth receives sunshine throughout the year. I wonder how I would survive the dark, sunless months, if I lived closer to the poles. We dont pay much attention to the gift of sunshine, simply because it has always been available to us in abundance. In the freezing months of December, when the sun looks bleak, we wish for a little warmth and brightness. When summer comes rolling by, with the sun merrily basking us with golden rays, we forget how blessed we are to receive this wonderful gift of nature. Why the Sun Is Your Best Friend Wouldnt you rather wake up to the morning glow instead of the incessantly screaming alarm clock? Would you not feel more alive after a brisk morning walk in the sun, instead of gulping down your low-fat decaf? It is an established fact that those who wake up to the first rays of the sun are less likely to feel lethargic, and low in enthusiasm than those who force themselves to wake up to artificial mechanisms. Your body clock, when in sync with nature, helps improve metabolism, productivity, and satisfaction. Your body will thank you for the extra bit of sunshine it receives, as it boosts your immunity, hormone production, and memory. Say goodbye to skin, bone, and muscle ailments with that extra dose of sunshine on your body. How Much Sunshine Is Too Much Sunshine While medical experts vary with the amount of sun one needs. While on one hand, lack of sun exposure has lead to an alarming increase in Vitamin D deficiency in the general population, too much exposure to sun increases the risk of skin cancer due to ultra violet radiation. While the jury is still out on what is the correct amount of sunshine needed for good health, lets go with a balanced approach. A good amount of sunshine that would make you look slightly flushed and bring a glow to your skin is safe. Make sure to take as much sun protection as needed, in order to avoid burning. If however, you come home looking like a red lobster, you know you have gotten yourself way too much sun. What better place to enjoy sunshine other than the beach? Head to the closest beach with your sun protection and beach basket to soak in some golden rays and dig your feet deep into the soft sand. Theres nothing more therapeutic than enjoying a sunny day playing with the waves or frolicking on the beach. If beaches are not your favorite, head to the hills. While you can enjoy the cool mountain breeze, you will also enjoy the warmth of the sunlight that will feed your body with the energy to go on. Sunshine Is Your Best Bet for Good Health Dont fear the sun. The sun is the reason for life on this planet. It has been around for millions of years, and will continue to do so for many more million years. Enjoy the sun and feel yourself growing alive as you turn your face towards the sun. Harper Lee, To Kill a MockingbirdSummer was on the way; Jem and I awaited it with impatience. Summer was our best season: it was sleeping on the back screened porch in cots, or trying to sleep in the tree house; summer was everything good to eat; it was a thousand colors in a parched landscape; but most of all, summer was Dill. Ralph Waldo EmersonLive in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air. Helen KellerKeep your face to the sunshine and you will never see the shadow. Charles Dickens, Oliver TwistThe sun,the bright sun, that brings back, not light alone, but new life, and hope, and freshness to manburst upon the crowded city in clear and radiant glory. Through costly-coloured glass and paper-mended window, through cathedral dome and rotten crevice, it shed its equal ray. Anne BronteA light wind swept over the corn, and all nature laughed in the sunshine. Lillie LangtryAnyones life truly lived consists of work, sunshine, exercise, soap, plenty of fresh air, and a happy contented spirit. Joey TolbertFor every day that there is sunshine, there will be days of rain, its how we dance within them both that shows our love and pain. Ken KeseyYouve got to get out and pray to the sky to appreciate the sunshine; otherwise youre just a lizard standing there with the sun shining on you. John RuskinSunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great GatsbyAnd so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.

NCI corporation Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

NCI corporation - Assignment Example This is the margin NCI corporation already had the capability to produce for the casket market. On the other side, the traditional margin for manufacturing the caskets was about 23%. On average, 23% is the operating margin NCI Corporation previously incurred for the new product. The increase in the number of discounters in the casket market results to reduced prices of caskets. , the margin increases with the increase in the casket suppliers in the market. The discounters such as the wholesalers, retailers, and other manufacturers do not incur the similar costs incurred by the funeral homes. Therefore, they sell the caskets cheaply and still make a profit because there are low production costs involved. In addition, the discounters sell caskets in large scale thereby enjoying the economies of scale. The number of caskets, I will sell to the different target purchasers depend heavily on the respective buying price the target buyer will offer. I will provide 50 Caskets to the funeral homes. This will be the highest number of caskets I would like to sell. To the retailers, I expect to sell around 60 caskets while the wholesalers will get around 100 caskets. To achieve the figures, I assumed a constant 40 % margin and particular profits for each purchaser target. For instance, I assumed $ 500,000 profit in the case of funeral homes, $ 180,000 profit in the case of the retailers and $ 250,000. In addition, I assumed $ 50,000 net income, $ 120,000 capital expenditure and investment return worth $ 250,000. 1. There are various risks associated with NCI’s entry into the casket selling. First, the firm risk losing all the retrenched workers. Secondly, involvement in the new business is risky since neither Roger nor his adviser knows about the marketing of the products. Lastly, the firm risks getting customers for her products since nobody in the business knows the targeted consumers for the caskets. 2. The firm’s sale will increase at the rate of diminishing

Precessing Vortex Core Literature review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

Precessing Vortex Core - Literature review Example While this appears to be an indication of perpetuated turbulence in fluid flow, experimental results have shown that the vortex tends to adapt to the force causing the spiral flow [10]. Fig 1: Precession of the vortex tending towards the equilibrium Fluid Flow in the Precessing Vortex Core Perhaps, it is on the basis of this tendency of vortex precession that the concept of swirl flow stabilization was developed for turbines. The precessing vortex core (PVC) has been defined by [14] as â€Å"...a three-dimensional time-dependent coherent structure developed in the exhaust nozzle of many swirl devices...† p. 147. Some of the challenges faced in adopting the concept of precessing vortex core point at the significance of the geometry of the combustor (for gaseous flow) as well as the instabilities in the thermo-acoustic. These are noted by [2] as significant sources of losses in stabilization process. According to [3], â€Å"...a precessing vortex core can be a source that drive s combustion instability† (p.1) and may lead to obvious undesirable results. This overshadows the beneficial effect of precessing vortex core sought for in a chamber such as an improved mixing of the fuel and air as well as stabilization of the flow. From the observation, the precessing vortex core can be linked to flow instabilities [3]. This was demonstrated by the interactions among the zones of recirculation during the flow process. Therefore, by considering the intricacies of precessing vortex core, research continues to expose the need for successful prediction of the mechanism and physics of flow stabilization. In such cases, efforts have been made to set up simulations that would properly model the speed of the flow propagation. This has been used by [3] to determine, with near precision, the exact position at which the flow propagation speed equalled the velocity of the incident flow at that very point of flow. From this simulation, it was expected that the turbulence at the base of the flow would enhance the speed of propagation of the flow. However, the investigation failed to simulate the desirable flow base structure that would give such results. This could be attributed to the challenge of flow stabilization that is attributed to the precessing vortex core. As such, to better understand the precessing vortex core and its effect on the fluid flow in swirl models used in fluid flow experiments, complications in swirl flow propagation models offer a good guideline [4]. Studies of the PVC are mainly done with reference to the operation of a gas turbine. Gas turbine models in such experiments were made to operate on lean combustion mixture that is premixed before injection in the fluid flow chamber of the turbine. These experiments have shown that introducing this premixed mixture in a swirl into the vortex is helpful in aerodynamic stabilization of the highly turbulent flows in the fluid flow chamber [4]. Fig 2: The view of the swirler (the out er and inner views) [4] At the core of the vortex, is a vortex line around which, every particle introduced into the chamber circulates. This results in the recirculation of the combusting mixture. This is because of the low pressure zone created by the circulating fluids. Experimental approaches have been developed to characterize structures of swirl generators. It is shown by these experiments that structural forms, flow interaction, and shape of the vortex play a role in precessing vortex

E-Bulletin Board System Essay Example for Free

E-Bulletin Board System Essay Chapter 3 Methodologies These Chapters provide, the research described the method of the research used and data gathering procedure, instruments and data processing techniques. Also provide the Technical Background, Theoretical and Conceptual Framework that will be tackling in this chapter. A. Technical Background In this study the main propose of our system is to create a reliable Computer Based Record Remittance System. In which we enhance the searching and updating the remittance of the employees of the Columban College specially the former employees that requesting the record of their remittances. The proposed system will use high level languages Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) for the system programming and for the style will be use Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) and for the records of remittances will be used database (SQL). It can search and update files of the remittances that will serve as the records. The records will be in the database that the administrator can view and can search, add, edit, and update. The proposed system will use the software Microsoft Windows Apache Server MySQL PHP Pearl (WAMP); this software will be needed to run the system and to be able to use it. The theory given in Figure 1. 1 shows that the use of the process of model also tells us that every function within our company contains key elements that define our processes. The inputs that are needed to perform the process and the process define the step taken to create the output, and the outputs will be the product or services created. This theory help us in our proposed system to determine the functions of our inputs which are the records of the remittances that all data will be process in the way that data entries of all files that they want to store in the database. And the output will be the entered data that is now the new record, and it can use now as the original file in the company. C. Conceptual Framework This conceptual framework becomes the central theme, the focus, the main thrust of the study. It visualizes the idea of the proposed system that can access by the administrator. Figure 2. 0 Conceptual Framework The flow of the Figure 2. 0 uses a high level language Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) for the application programming and therefore the information source (Database, Searching, Adding, Editing, Updating, and Deleting). The data collected provided significant and necessary results and conclusions, and possible solutions to unpredictable problems that may arise. The appropriately selected instruments employed were the questionnaire, and the technique applied was the observation method. Observation This method is vital in gathering facts that will support the study in a way which promotes the validity of the data gathered. This technique was adapted because instances often arise and may not be avoided when certain data is not adequately and credibly secured through the use of questionnaire and except through observation.

The Effect of Colonialism in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe Essay

This essay is about the effect of Colonialism seen in the book Things Fall Apart. Through out the whole book you can see different impressions on the tribe, many other people, and the relationships between the white man and the black man.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  "Does the white man understand our custom about land?" "How can he when he does not even speak our tongue? But he says that our customs are bad; and our own brothers who have taken up his religion also say that our customs are bad. How do you think we can fight when our own brothers have turned against us? The white man is very clever. He came quietly and peaceably with his religion. We were amused at his foolishness and allowed him to stay. Now he has won our brothers, and our clan can no longer act like one. He has put a knife on the things that held us together and we have fallen apart." (Achebe, 17) This discussion of the white man not understanding the customs and traditions, comes ever since the arrival of the colonialists, Obierika seems to voice Achebe's own thoughts on colonialism. Upset by the fact that the white men have come and completely disregarded the Igbo sense of justice, Obierika points out the impossibility of the colonialists understanding anything about the Umuofians without speaking their language. Then he points out the foolishness of belittling unfamiliar customs.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Obierika does not lay the whole blame on the white man’s side. He feels also that the Umuofians who have con...

Arctic cap melting

The article voices concerns over the unprecedented rapid pace of Arctic cap melting. However, the melting process itself poses lesser danger to the Earth ecosystem as compared with the feedback mechanisms Arctic ice is involved in. These feedback mechanisms contribute to global warming in three distinct ways.As ice melts, the territory of open ocean waters increases. Water has lower reflectivity, or albedo, as compared to ice. This fact entails that water absorbs 80 percent more solar radiation than sea ice does.   Thus, the sun warms the ocean more quickly, and this process results in a vicious circle speeding up global warming. The second way ice melting accelerates climate change is associated with the fact that oceans absorb about half the carbon dioxide that humans emit into the atmosphere. Yet their ability to absorb carbon dioxide is diminished by the increase in ocean’s temperature because the gas dissolves less readily in warmer water. Furthermore, warming of oceans implies less mixing between deep and surface waters – the process that provides nutrients to plankton that absorb carbon dioxide. Finally, ice melting entails rotting of organic matter contained in the permafrost. This process involves the release of carbon dioxide and methane into the Earth atmosphere. Warming also affects wetlands and forests desiccating peat bogs and causing beetle infestation that kills pine forest.More wildfires occur in dead or dying forests, and the process of combustion emits huge quantities of carbon into the atmosphere. All these alarming signs call for a united and consistent action by all environmental activists and everyone keen on saving our planet.

Winds Essays - Wind, Atmospheric Dynamics, Trade Winds, Free Essays

Winds Essays - Wind, Atmospheric Dynamics, Trade Winds, Free Essays Winds Michael Zakrzewski March 31, 1999 Mr. Oshogobor G001 Earth Science Report: Winds There are two general types of winds, local winds and global winds. Local winds blow from any direction and usually cover short distances. Global winds blow from a specific direction and almost always cover longer distances than local winds. Both local winds and global winds are caused by differences in air pressure due to unequal heating of the atmosphere. During the day, the air over a land area is often warmer than the air over a nearby lake or sea. The air is warmer because the land heats up faster than the water. As the warm air over the land rises, the cooler air over the sea moves inland to tale its place. This flow of air from the sea to the land is called a sea breeze. During the night, the land cools off faster than the water. The air over the sea is now warmer than the air over the land. This warm air over the sea rises. The cooler air over the land moves to replace the rising warm air over the sea. A flow of air from the land to the sea is called a land breeze. A land breeze is also called an off-shore breeze. The name of a wind tells you from which direction the wind is blowing. A land breeze blows from the land to the sea. A sea breeze blows from the sea to the land. Most local winds that we are familiar with are named according to the direction from which they are blowing. A major land and sea breeze is called a monsoon. A monsoon is a seasonal wind. During part of the year, a monsoon blows from the land to the ocean. During the rest of the year, it blows from ocean to the land. When a monsoon blows from the ocean to the land, it brings in warm, moist air. This results in a rainy season with warm temperatures and huge amounts of rain. The rainy season is important to many because it provides the water needed for farming. Monsoon winds are very common in Asia. Unequal heating of the Earths surface also forms large global wind systems. In areas near the equator the sun is almost directly overhead for most of the year. The direct rays of the sun heat the Earths surface. The polar regions receive slanting rays from the sun. The slanting rays do not heat the Earths surface as rapidly as the direct rays do. So temperatures near the poles are lower than those near the equator. At the equator, the warm air rises and moves toward the poles. At the poles, the cooler air sinks and moves toward the equator. This movement produces a global pattern of air circulation. Global winds do not move directly from north to south or from south to north. Because the Earth rotates, or spins on its axis, from west to east, the paths of the winds shift in relation to the Earths surface. All winds in the Northern Hemisphere curve to the right as thy move. In the Southern Hemisphere, winds curve to the left. This shift in wind direction is called Coriolis effect. The Coriolis effect is the apparent shift in the path of any fluid or object moving above the surface of the Earth due to the rotation of the Earth. At any particular time or place local conditions may influence and change the wind pattern. At the Equator surface winds are quite calm. These winds are called the doldrums. A belt of air around the equator receives much of the suns radiant energy. The warm rising air produces a low pressure area that extends many kilometers north and south of the Equator. Cooler high pressure air would normaly flow into such an area creating winds. But the cooler air is warmed so rapidly near the Equator that the winds which form cannot move into the low pressure area. As a result any winds that do not form are weak. About 30 degrees north and south of the equator the warm air rising from the equator cools and begins to sink. Here, the sky is usually clear. There are few

When I got my drivers licences Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

When I got my drivers licences - Essay Example I sought the input of friends and relatives, people I could trust, who had been there before me. The advice was good – well, at least it made sense to me. â€Å"Be sure that the car you take the test in is clean and smells good,† my best friend offered, â€Å"Or it’ll really tick the tester off and they’ll knit-pick you to death until you fail the behind the wheel.† He swore that exact scenario happened to someone he personally knew. â€Å"Make sure that you take a vehicle that has good air conditioning,† (I was taking my test in July), â€Å"because if it’s hot and you don’t have air, forget about it. The tester is going to want to get through it really quick and you can bet you’ll have to go back and take the behind the wheel again,† was the advice of my older sister. This too made sense to me. The day arrived when I was finally ready to take my behind-the-wheel exam. I had convinced my dad to let me use his caddy, instead of mom’s Vovlo. At first my dad was reluctant to let me use the caddy, but by the time I promised to cut the grass, clean the garage, and take out the garbage on time for the rest of my life at home, he gave in and agreed to let me use it. It would be later that night when I would fully realize that I had committed to so much work around the house that I might never have time to drive even if I did pass my test. My mother drove me to the DMV and we parked in a space where I wouldn’t have any trouble backing out of it once the tester was in the car with me. My mother whispered as we were walked up to the building, â€Å"Now remember, for parallel parking, just aim for the curb and as soon as it looks like your back wheels are touching the curb, straighten it out and you’re home free.† Okay, I thought, that sounds good too; but why was she whispering. Was there a law about getting advice from your mother on test day? I hadn’t read anything about that in the manual. Once inside the building
